However, it also suggests that while the interest is there, many travelers don’t know where to look to find environmentally sound travel options.

The site recently launched its Travel Sustainable badge, highlighting accommodations that exemplify sustainable practices across a broad scope of criteria, including the implementation of renewable energy, eliminating single-use plastics, and investing in conservation efforts.

For example, digital innovations like contactless technology have been essential in guarding public health throughout the COVID crisis.   • Royal Caribbean announced its renewed partnership with the World Wildlife Fund this month. In addition to a $5 million contribution, Royal Caribbean is working with WWF towards a number of sustainability goals, including emissions reductions and sustainable seafood sourcing.
  • The travel platform Copolo has partnered with CHOOOSE, a climate technology company. Together they are accelerating access and adoption of climate solutions across a range of key technologies – from nature-based solutions to carbon removal to Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
  • The Republic of Palau is initiating a new program that will reward tourists for responsible travel choices. Their Ol’au Palau app – launching this year – will allow travelers to accumulate points for sustainable decisions such as using reef-safe sunscreen or supporting eco-friendly local businesses. In return, travelers will gain access to pristine hidden gems and private tours.
  • The aviation industry is getting an eco boost, courtesy of NASA. NASA has an array of projects in motion surrounding SAFs (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) and innovative technology, including an all electric experimental aircraft, the X-57, set to begin initial flights this year.
